Mike McIntyre Congressional Collection, 1996-2015A native of Lumberton, Mike McIntyre earned his law degree at the University of North Carolina before entering private practice in his hometown in 1981. McIntyre succeeded in his first campaign for public office when in 1996 he defeated Bill Caster to succeed Charlie Rose to represent North Carolina’s 7th district. He left Congress in 2015 after declining to run for reelection in 2014. A so-called Blue Dog Democrat, he worked for the interests of his rural constituents as he secured the “tobacco buyout” to help them transition from tobacco farming. This collection reflects his efforts on their behalf, but also illustrates his work to protect the environment, encourage international trade, and support the armed forces.
