NATO: North Atlantic Treaty Organization

NATO consists of 32 members countries that work together "to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area." It was founded in 1949 with 12 original member countries.

NATO has a structure based on 3 entities:

1. Civilian structure
2. Military structure
3. Organizations and Agencies

"Each member country is represented on the North Atlantic Council by an Ambassador or Permanent Representative supported by a national delegation composed of advisers and officials who represent their country on different NATO committees. The Council also meets from time to time at the level of Heads of State and Government, Ministers of Foreign Affairs or Ministers of Defense."

NATO's current Secretary General is "Mark Rutte, the former Dutch Prime Minister, who took up his responsibilities on October 1, 2024."
