Overview

Geographic Information Systems or GIS are the computer hardware and software that enable users to store, manipulate, analyze, and visualize geographic and locational data. GIS is an essential tool for understanding how geography and spatial relationships impact our world and shape our experiences. Remote Sensing is the science of collecting data about an object or phenomenon from a distance using a sensor deployed on satellites, airplanes, drones, and other kinds of observational platforms. GIS Consultations

GIS consultations are available in-person on a drop-in basis in the UNCW Library Digital Scholarship Lab. GIS consultations are open to all UNCW Library patrons. No knowledge of GIS is required. The Digital Scholarship Lab is located on the first floor of Randall Hall in room 1023G next to the Library Help Desk. GIS consultations are offered through a partnership between UNCW Library and the Department of Earth & Ocean Sciences.
