- Oxford Music OnlineContains the music-specific encyclopedias Grove Music Online, The Oxford Dictionary of Music, and The Oxford Companion to Music with articles written by music scholars. A great starting place.
- Music IndexA music-specific online database; coverage starts from 1978 onwards. Both full text and citations
- RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (1967 to Present only)A music-specific database; coverage starts at 1967. Citations only.
Recommended Databases
Using online databases
In order to find scholarly journal or popular magazine articles, you need to search the online databases. Most often, the full text of the articles you find will be available in the databases. If not, however, do a “Journal Title” search in the Library Catalog on the name of the journal, magazine, or newspaper from which the article was published. The catalog will tell you if the library owns the issue you need.

Art Abstracts provides comprehensive indexing and abstracts for more than 450 international art publications, including periodicals, yearbooks, and museum bulletins. - New York Times (ProQuest Historical Newspapers)Full-text access to the New York Times from 1851. A great resource for finding reviews of past dance companies and performances in NYC.

- Classical Music LibraryClassical Music Library includes recordings from the world's greatest labels. Classical and some world music genres available.
- Naxos Music LibraryNaxos Music Library is the world´s largest online classical music library. Also contains world music with a heavy emphasis on Chinese music.
- Naxos Music Library JazzNaxos Music Library Jazz [NMLJ] is one of the most comprehensive collections of jazz music available online.
