This guide identifies collections with content pertaining to the U.S. Civil War, which contain primary source documents, photocopies, and post-Civil War recollections and reflections. These include family papers, personal accounts, soldier correspondence, newspaper articles, military and political records, information on slavery, battle maps, and Confederate currency and artifacts. Collections largely represent those local to Southeast North Carolina, though material from other states is also included, as well as from both sides in the war, with the majority related to the Confederacy given Wilmington's southern location.
