*From 1973-1976, Charles Cahill was Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, and there were two Assistant Deans – Daniel B. Plyler and James K. McGowan. UNC Wilmington reorganized Academic Affairs in 1979, creating the College of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Education, Business Administration, and Nursing. Daniel B. Plyler, Wilmington College biology professor since 1966, was the first College of Arts and Sciences Dean.
